More and more, we see that the 8th day EPG details are missing especially on older decoders such as the HD PVR 4 tuner decoders. When this happens, new issues with scheduled recordings arise. Even long-standing series settings are affected. I will try and describe what I have noticed in the last week or so. And this is NOT due to the general chaos we all experienced over this past weekend.


1. New Series.

If a new series or season starts on the 8th day, the season number will not be available and if you set a recording for it while this info is not there, the recordings fail. As soon as the data is added say on the next day, the setting will show that it is set to record but because the season detail is missing it will fail. A new setting will be required.

2. Existing Series Settings. 

These end up also failing because of the channel or event ID changes.

3. Other recordings.

These do not complete. The recordings either start late or terminate early.

Once again, one has to babysit the decoders and check everything at least once every 24 hours.

The only way to avoid this mess is to NOT set any schedules for items on the 8th day, but wait until ALL the info is there before scheduling a recording.

One, therefore, has to ask what benefit there is to have the 8th day at all?
