Re: Additional viewing environment ExtraView

Thanks. I will try the barrel connectors. The switch is about 6m from the decoders and the dish another 8 meters away from the switch

Re: Additional viewing environment ExtraView

Where is the switch located? remote from the decoders?

You have two choices, replace the cables ( the best option), or, join longer cables to those using barrel connectors, which then can reach the decoders.

Re: Additional viewing environment ExtraView

Thanks. However the cables from the lnb only run up to the switch and are not long enough to connect directly to the decoders.

Re: Additional viewing environment ExtraView

Just connect the decoders direct to the SLNB. The 5-2 switch has very little monetary value except maybe for some enthusiasts who might be interested.

Re: Additional viewing environment ExtraView

Hi. We would like to change above setup to smart lnb 501. How do we get rid of 5.2 switch?

Thanks, how do you unmark a solution?

Hi

need help please. Connected explorer 2 (primary) and explorer 1 (secondary) on ExtraView. Dual lnb with 5-2 switch. Connected heartbeat cable from RF in on main to RF out on secondary. Connected RF out to bedroom as additional viewing environment.

extraview works well on both decoders.

problem is I can only pick up primary decoder feed if the secondary tv is off at the mains.

if we put both decoders on the analogue channels disappear

There are TWO separate issues with your install, both requiring attention to ensure full functionality, both needing attention.

1. Using a TWIN LNB and 5-2 Explora switch for connecting an Explora 1 and an Explora 2A.

  • See Jan's post
  • The issue here as axplained by Jan in his original post is that the 5-2 switch does not provide for 6 userbands and frequencies as required by the Explora 1 and the Explora 2A. The two decoders DO NOT allow for the sharing of a userband and frequency for tuner 3, as is the case with two Explora 1's or presumably two Explora 2A's, which means thta some functionality such as software downloads, CU downloads and EPG streams will not function properly.
  • To solve this problem, one MUST either:
  • Make use of a Quad or Quattro LNB PLUS a 24-1Z switch. Using a TWIN LNB with the 24-1Z switch is a temporary solution and works at the moment while MC still makes limited use of Hi-band tranponders, but will lead to problems in the future.
  • OR:
  • Install a SLNB model LMX 501 as this LNB will ultimately be able to handle ALL future use of high band transponders WITHOUT any additional switches etc.

Critically, both the above options provide for sufficient userbands and their assocated frequencies to allow the allocation of 3 for each decoder (0,1,2 for the Explora 2A and 3,4,5 for the Explora 1).

2. Ensuring no interference between the UHF Channels used by two decoders used on a common RF distribution setup.

  • Here, the issue is to ensure that the two decoders DO NOT use the same UHF channel number for RF distribution. Optimist posted where to change the settings and how to go about making the changes. See Optimist's post.

Re: Additional viewing environment ExtraView

OKay, The responses to this issue are now all correct in one way or another and one of the solutions have been implemented by OP, but his problems are not completely fixed.

It would be very wrong of us to leave it like this so the only answer is to request that OP unmarks my post as a solution and a summary post be given that does sort out the problem completely.

Optimist posted the issue about ensuring no conflicts with the UHF channels being used by the two decoders, and Jan posted about the issues relating to the different wau in which the Explora 1 and the Explora 2A work, making the use of a 5-2 switch NOT a suitable.
