Explora 3 on sale

Re: Explora 3 on sale

One suspects that the 3A will also have;

  • A built in smartcard
  • A built in diplexer with Uniview capability
  • Still have internet connectivity
  • Will not allow copy-once to other recording devices
  • Will supply adequate power for feeding a LMX502 SLNB... but can it manage a 501 ?

Best that you give feedback MC, else all sorts of rumours and misconceptions will arise.

Maybe @MCA-David can help a bit re the tech interests, and even expand on this a bit?

Re: Explora 3 on sale

Explora 2A has 2 USB ports.

Explora 3A has one USB port.

Explora 2A has a front panel display which displays the channel number your viewing

Explora 3A does not have a front panel display, however, it has LED lights which indicate if the decoder is on or off.

Explora 2A has the normal size smartcard

Explora 3A has a mini smart card

Explora 2A has a fan.

Explora 3A doesn't have a fan however as with all our decoders good ventilation is always recommended.

Explora 2A has RF ports for distribution of the RF signal.

Explora 2A transmits and receives the heartbeat signal through the Unicable port and RF ports

Explora 3A has no RF ports for distribution of the heartbeat and RF signal.

Explora 3A transmits and receives the heartbeat signal through the Unicable port

Explora 2A supports relay commands through the RF ports.

Explora 3A supports relay commands through the Unicable port.

All Explora’s are compatible with A5, A6 and A7 remote controls.

Both Explora 2A and Explora 3A have recording space of up to 110 hours.

Installation recommendations.

It is Recommend that in all installations where we install an Explora 2A or Explora 3A decoder we make them primary as they have amplification through the Unicable port for sending the heartbeat signal through a DStv Smart LNB or DStv 24-1Z switch.
Hope the information helps, its as far i've noted changes.

Also 2 and 3 are both the same price at Makro.

Odd.

I presume economy disasters drove the production costs of the 3A way up.

I wonder if MC will carry the extra costs of new stock of the 2A.

If they're considering discontinuing the 2A, that's likely to be the final nail in the coffin regarding hardware.

Re: Explora 3 on sale

Has there been media releases or any sort of announcement to say what the differences are between 2 and 3? Up to now it looks like a state secret.  General google searches show nothing & there is little info on the makro site.  It is showing that the hard drive is going to be the same as 2 tho.  I don't know if you can go by the pic but 3 looks smaller.  Also 2 and 3 are both the same price at Makro.

At the moment I'm just asking out of interest.  I'm sure my Explora 1 will last another 10 years Cat LOL Cat LOL Cat LOL   But it is a good idea to have an idea what the next/newest generation is for when the day comes.
