SABC going HD?

Re: SABC going HD?

Now all we need to get MC to do is help the SABC set up wide-screen and the Aspect Ratios correctly!

Especially noting that there are two channels not yet HD and all the channels use common studio and internal network infrastructure.

SABC Channerls will NOT go over Automatically for those with older decoders.

Just a note to all those with older decoders:

(1) You must have a HD decoder to receive the channels in HD. That means only those with the following decoders will get the SABC channels in HD:

HD PVR 4T Pace & UEC

HD PVR 2T Pace & UEC

Single view HD decoders models 4U, 4S, 5U, 5S

Explora 1 and 2A

(2) The older decoders WILL NOT automatically switch, you MUST trigger a full decoder reboot by powering down the decoders. Applies to the HDPVR 4T and 2T decoders. Not sure of the single view decoders, someone with these will have to post their experiences.

(3) Expect a signal strength indication loss, as the older decoders do not display signal strength values correctly on the transponder used, especially if you do not have a SLNB installed.

(4) The SABC HD channels are on one of the fidddled Hi-band transponders.  11848, VER, 30000, FEC 2/3.  You could try two network settings if you have older universal LNBs installed:

Standard and Universal, with no Explora switches or 24-1Z switch.  Select the one that behaves the best.

The picture quality currently on-screen is actually not bad for the age of the show.....  And no SABC3 logo on-screen at all!

Not all content??? What isn't filmed in HD these days

Nope - they show a LOT of old content - much of it filmed long before HD even existed. Man Tongue

EDIT: Currently, for example, Magnum PI is on which is not even widescreen yet. At least the aspect ratio is correct though!

Re: SABC going HD?

I'm guessing they use the same feed also for their SD broadcasts - just downscaled. Or maybe a logo upgrade will still follow. Maybe only once SABC2 also gets upgraded.Who knows with the SABC...

They also said that not all content will be in HD so maybe it's best not to advertise it too much.. hehe..

Re: SABC going HD?

Rather disappointed no HD logo  all local channels has  HD logos. I know it doesn't really make much difference but I like to see the HD logo
