Re: Carte Blanche back to their 5 minute irritation

Like with most issues, I have given up on this. My recording also failed but fortunately I was home and ended up watching live. I only realised it wasn't recording mid-way through.

Re: Carte Blanche back to their 5 minute irritation

The channel has really screwed-up tonight, bad as it's Carte Blanche's anniversary broadcast !

Sometime later today, they extended the longer episode tonight from ending @ 20:30 to ending @ 20:35 - and I had an EBR for another channel @ 20:30 so nearly lost the 101 recording! :-(

It's like no-one ever considers the bigger picture or consequences. Hard to see a reason to discuss these things anymore...

And can't even type properly here anymore due to weird forum software, letters keep getting lost! Bah!!

And still the same for this coming Sunday. And last night Carte Blance was all over and done with by 20H00 - so this 20H05 is nothing other than incompetence and to annoy subscribers.

Re: Carte Blanche back to their 5 minute irritation

This is never going to change since no one at MC apparently understand (or cares) how PVR functionality works - but as long as they choose to irritate me by doing it I will irritate back by posting about it.

Next Sundays: Still 19H00 to 20H05....

Re: Carte Blanche back to their 5 minute irritation

And still it continues. Last night had an extended episode of Carte Blanche due to the age restriction of the Sunday night movie - so the episode was from 19H00 to 20H30. Note that it was NOT 20H35... it was 20H30. And this coming Sunday? 19H00 to 20H05... NOT 20H00.

It is truly astonishing that there can be such little understanding in a broadcasting company as to how their own products (specifically referring to PVRs & conflicts) operate. Let alone the inconveniences they cause to THEIR SUBSCRIBERS.

Re: Carte Blanche back to their 5 minute irritation

This is an unbelievable answer!

Do the EPG Team actually know what they are talking about or do they think we as PREMIUM subscribers are dumb...

Just shows you why MC CEO said that satellite tv is dying #incompetence streaming is the way to go because then we don't need to worry about recording conflicts!

Re: Carte Blanche back to their 5 minute irritation

Well done Krugie. What you highlight is the incredible lack of understanding within MC with those involved in setting up the EPG.

The EPG is the blood supply that makes the entire concept of using a PVR. It is absolutely critical that all involved understand why the EPG must be set up correctly. This applies to the channel owners as well as MC themselves. The most important aspects of the EPG are:

100% accuracy

Rigid adherence to broadcast times and time slots

Consistency.

It is NOT there to cater for marketing needs.

The EPG is a technical requirement that drives and supports a well run broadcaster. The whole matter does not belong under the wings of the marketing people in MC.

Hi @krugie, please see the below feedback.

Perhaps it would be best if you looked at solving the conflict by recording the additional airing for Carte Blanche - Mondays at 12:30 or Thursdays at 13:30.

And  just to respond to this - the entire point of using a decoder with series recording capabilities is to be able to set a series recording and not worry about it any further or need to manually manipulate it. When this happens you can't choose which airing will be recorded - it will automatically record (or attempt to record) the 1st airing.

There are commercials/sponsors scheduled just before the movie starts that is why it starts at 20:05.

Unfortunately this is not an acceptable answer or solution. Since when does program times have to cater for commercials? There are commercials before every single program yet the TV Guide does not have to cater for it. Carte Blance can be scheduled as ending at 20H00 and the movie as starting at 20H00 - even if it only starts at 20H05. If 5 minutes can be added to the end of Carte Blance for commercials - where everyone will press stop on their recordings in any case and not see the commercials, then surely they can also rather be added to the beginning of the movie instead - and even be more likely to be seen? The precious commercials between 20H00 and 20H05 will then still be recorded with the movie and you will not upset just about your entire premium subscriber base by causing recording conflict where no such conflicts actually exist. It is really not rocket science to understand what those 5 minutes on the TV Guide does on a PVR with scheduled recordings that start at 20H00 on other channels?
