DStv Decoders: Which UserBands (UBs) to use?

One of the installation issues subscribers experience quite often is which UBs to use when configuring their decoders. Sometimes after a software upgrade, decoders default back to factory settings which can be a serious matter when more than one decoder is working off a common SLNB or DStv switch.

This thread provides some detail regarding what UBs are available for selection on the various decoder models which are SATCR/Unicable enabled.

4 tuner HD PVRs:

The decoders are preprogrammed to use UBs 0, 1, 2, 3. No facilities exist to be able to change the settings. If this decoder model is fed from a common SLNB or 24-1Z switch, then any other decoder will have to adjusted NOT to use the above UBs. Hence, only one of these decoders can be connected to the Unicable ports on a SLNB or 24-1Z switch. Note also, these decoders cannot be connected to the Unicable ports on the older 5-2 ES.

2 tuner HD PVRs:

These decoders default to UBs 0, 1. There are facitilies to change the choice of UBs on these decoders. The choice should be restricted though to UBs 0 to 7.

HD decoders 4- & 5-series:

These decoders only provide for UBs 0 to 7 to be selected.

The 4-series decoders only use 1 UB and the default is UB 0.

The 5-series require 2 UBs and the defaults are 0, 1.

Explora 1:

This decoder defaults to 0, 1, 2.

32 UBs are available for tuners 2 & 3.

Tuner 1 can only select UBs 0 to 7.

Explora 2A & 3A:

These models provide for UBs 0 to 23 only.

The defaults are UBs 0, 1, 2.
